Editorial Policy

This page explains how Bones After 50 produces, reviews and publishes its content. We believe transparency about editorial standards is part of what makes a health information site trustworthy.

Our Editorial Mission

Bones After 50 publishes educational content on bone health, osteoporosis, nutrition, supplements and safe exercise for adults over 50. Our goal is to be genuinely useful and medically responsible — not to alarm, oversell or oversimplify.

Sources We Use

We prioritise the following source types:

  • National health bodies: NIH, NIAMS, NHS, CDC
  • Specialist organisations: Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation (BHOF), Endocrine Society
  • Established clinical sources: Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Harvard Health
  • Peer-reviewed research in recognised medical journals
  • Clinical practice guidelines from recognised professional bodies
  • USPSTF recommendations where relevant

We do not use affiliate product pages, marketing materials or unverified anecdotal sources as evidence for health claims.

What We Do Not Claim

We do not publish content that:

  • Claims a supplement, programme or lifestyle change will reverse or cure osteoporosis
  • Promises specific fracture risk reductions or bone density improvements in a set timeframe
  • Advises readers to stop, avoid or replace medication
  • Uses the phrases “without drugs”, “doctor-approved” (without a real doctor), or “guaranteed results”
  • Presents testimonials as medical evidence
  • Attributes medical review to individuals who have not actually reviewed the content

Authorship and Review

Content is written and reviewed by the Bones After 50 Editorial Team — health content editors who specialise in translating reputable medical sources into clear, practical guidance. Our team members are not medical doctors or clinicians.

We do not use the label “medically reviewed” unless a qualified medical professional has actually reviewed the content. We do not fabricate reviewers or credentials.

Where content has been reviewed or fact-checked by a named individual, this is disclosed on the article page.

Affiliate Content and Editorial Independence

Some articles include affiliate links. When they do, this is clearly disclosed at the top or bottom of the article and on our Affiliate Disclosure page.

Affiliate relationships do not determine which topics we cover, how we assess products, or what safety information we include. An affiliated product receives the same editorial scrutiny as any other.

We do not publish content designed primarily to sell a product. Articles with affiliate recommendations include honest context, limitations and medical caveats.

Corrections Policy

If we identify an error — factual, safety-related or otherwise — we correct it promptly. Significant corrections are noted on the relevant article. If you believe something we have published is inaccurate, please contact us and we will investigate.

Content Currency

Medical guidance evolves. We aim to review and update articles when relevant evidence changes. Articles include a publication date, and significant updates are noted in the article. However, we cannot guarantee that every article reflects the most current guidance at any given time. Always check with a healthcare professional for up-to-date personal guidance.
